phpFox V4 Feature Requests
We need more feedback now as we are looking at the features to see what clients are interested in from the requests there. Please comment in the feature requests you want to see implemented. Note that we just need to gauge interest and cannot promise that requests with lots of interest can be implemented as we will only implement things that will enhance the product without causing harmful side effects. Please remember, if submitting, to follow the posted guidelines in this thread and at the github area. That section is ONLY for small core improvements and not for full fledged features. Thank you.

JohnJr and t3ln3t, while I appreciate you both taking the time to offer these suggestions, the real point that I am trying to make here is that we should NOT even have to resort to such roundabout methods in order to receive email notifications when a new user signs up.

Look, if the phpFox software can automatically send an email address verification notification to a new user when they sign up, then it most certainly can send an email to the site admin when a new user signs up as well.

My gosh, scripts of various types -- such as javascript, perl, php, etc. -- have been able to perform this simple email notification function for literally decades now.

For the record, I am an old school, pre-Internet guy who used to run both a BBS, as well as an old school messageboard. Even my messageboard cgi  -- which I still run for the heck of it -- can automatically send out automated email notifications.

So the larger question in my mind is WHY phpFox can't perform this same basic function which has been available for many years.

If you are a longtime phpFox admin, you will already know the answer to this question. Do I really need to spell it out for you?

that looks like it just uses access lists and doesnt do albums. I need one that users can password protect albums and use different passwords for different albums, and needs to be able to be utilized by guests also. With that app, the user would have to be a member of the site.. it seems that phpfox had this feature at one time. I remember in V3 there was references in the admincp to "password protect" in the photo module..I even asked about it once and was told it was from legacy I'm thinking V1 or V2 had it?

Well, Vinny, I can't say that I am surprised by your response. Over the months, I have made a number of feature requests -- as have other members here -- and yet it seems that none of them -- or at least very few of them -- are ever really implemented. These are features which, in my view, should ALREADY be a part of phpFox by default. Yet to have these basic features implemented, we are always reminded about custom work. That mantra eventually grows old and tiresome. Personally, I just can't see investing any more money in phpFox at this current time.

I hope that by replying this will regenerate the current status of trhis request....     I, too, would prefer my site show the usename rather than the full name...

There is now an app that will show the username but there is no option to NOT show the full name....

NOTE:  Members of the site can always go into account settings and change their full name to their username... but this is not an optimum solution...

Hi  Watcharaphol,

I am afraid that the feature you want doesn't exist in phpFox default, however, if you want to hide " the option (Repeat) on create event page", we can help you do that via custom work which incurs addtional cost. If you are interested, please help us submit a ticket in and write down your request, our customazation team will get in touch with you shortly.

Stay safe.

Hi Randy,

Thanks for your comment, your idea has been transferred to our deployment team and we will consider carefully to add it in the improvement lists of the next phpFox versions.

Have a nice day ahead and stay safe all.

Hannah, after a few minutes researching it (like 10 minutes) I realized it would be better to encrypt through the server like you mentioned.  Although, this will be put on the backburner until the site gets HUGE ;)

John, I an not a golfer, so I can only guess at what that thing might possibly be. Is it used to take golf tees out of the ground? 😳

Regarding words or images, if you are talking about the anti-spam phrases which are used during the sign-up process, I was actually using both. In fact, even my phrases were animated GIFs to make it more difficult for bots to be able to read them.

Sadly, when I upgraded from 4.8.3 to 4.8.4, something caused the anti-spam mechanism to break, so that the images are no longer appearing during sign-up. As a result, new users are unable to answer the question, and so the phpFox script throws an error.

Si, for now, I have disabled the anti-spam feature during sign-up. In fact, I haven't even reported the problem to the phpFox staff yet, because I've been too busy, or just too tired.

Anyway, what I am asking for in this thread is not a new way to test new members to make sure they are real people. After all, we can already do that. Rather, what I want is a link to some other social network in which they participate, so I can learn more about them.
