Automatic logo with added links i am not sure how to say it but here it goes

FB has an automated link finder when you post a link it goes out and pulls the logo and several pictures to choos from to include with the link that you post.

Sounds interesting, can you elaborate a bit more? I'm not quite sure what this is or maybe you can tell us how to do it at facebook?

Whe ever I post a link on a friends page or reply to a message and I add a link to a website this is what happens.

ps if you want me to remove this img just let me know

but -correct me if Im wrong-, isnt that helping your users go away from your site with better looking ads/links?

Honestly look at the rate people are joining FB:: granted some will join other sites however the main idea is to in enhance user options most people though do not own a SN to draw people to even then people still keep there FB:: account myself i love the featuer and I don't always post links to my SN site but to sites i like or to other sites i own that just have adds on them i see it as a valube option. even when for example my brother in law post events it will do this and this enhances user interaction that will be joining the event at hin night club. myself i look at the overal user bennifits we need options to keep members active.

thanks for lettin me give my 4 cents due to inflation 2 cents isn't worth that much anymore

Somehow I feel a bit the same Purefan do. I'm sure this is not the reason why people joining FB.

I'm not against your suggestion, but I also wouldn't support it..

I just would expand it with my idea, please take a look at my attached screen.

Ok, I get it now... It's like Social Bookmarking right? I don't see how that's a bad idea considering just about every major player is doing this and this is also how some of the major players are popular such as stumbleupon, digg and others.

I rather have a section like this where members can do this than to have them trying to place links randomly around the site. Believe or not most people are really going to post their favorites or their own sites but if they are not active the sites to promote them the sites will end up on the last page anyhow.

I have no problem with people joining my site to promote themselves cause if I can get new members based on their efforts then that is great for me. Besides that's the main reason why we really join myspace and facebook isn't it? lol

I'm voting for this. think of like a directory listing or today's new improved word social bookmarking.

PS. I don't mind the pic above.

Well a slim header with may be a single 728*90 ad of the fox site would be enough with the external link opening in the page below it as most of the proxy sites do.

And well, this is a superb feature added if they could save these bookmark to a csv or import their browser bookmarks to it. may be a section of bookmark sharing.

what do you guys think?

Sorry perhaps I didn't completly understand what's the suggestion about.. When it was about "bookmarking" then I was wrong..

My suggestion was when clicking on foreign weblinks within the phpfox community.

Ok I will try to see is this makes sence here is what i experiance when I place a link on FB :: lets say ClubUgly and I are friends on FB :: and I post a comment on his page and I say hey ClubUgly you really need to check out this site http://976easy.com well instead of just having the link FB :: automaticaly finds the site and loads 8 pictures to choose from to hilight the site to make it more enticing to visit.

it is a nice feature and not everyone will be trying to get members to join other SN sites it's just like if I said hey Purefan you gotta check out this site http://976easy.com and then I choose a picture from the 8 offered automaticaly.

basicaly it is just a cool feature

I do like the splash page Idea also and the thought of advertising the whole package would be great

Well please make the spash page optional... Meaning we can display directly on the page in the footer as a side note or have a small window alert.

The reason, I say this is it can easily become very annoying to view a alert for each and every link your friends recommend. The point is your friend recommeded it and what do people expect to happen when they click a link.

I haven't' seen a social bookmarking site warning people they will be taken away from the site by clicking a link because that should be obvious.

So if you do add that feature please make it optional because I find it unpractical for social bookmarking, directory listings, toplist, affiliates and etc.

My experience with this splash screen is very positive. .. Of course, an extra screen can be a little bit annoying... but not so much that you imagine...

It's very positive against phishing your members account details, because once your community became successful, you'll run into this problem. This reduced phishing and spamming in our community a lot.

Just think about a private message of a friend, it says:

Hi $username, take a look at this site: www.phpfox.com, there are many great pictures of my new girlfriend!

Well, you think the message comes from your friend, but what you don't know, his account is already phished by a spammer.

Now the link above says it would be within phpfox.com ,.. but when you click on the link above, you'll see my website.. okay, in this case now my website look diffrent, but imagine it would look exactly like your own famous community is looking. You perhaps wonder why you arent logged in, so you'll try to enter your login details and baammm, your account will be also phished now and then you are the person who is sending the spam to your friends.. And they'll trust you and they'll do the same mistake...

With this splash screen, the true URL will be shown and it will remember people always to think a bit before visiting URLs like myviagra.com, because in this splash screen you'll see the URL bold or colored ... You trust your friends, thats okay, but you can not trust your friends computer if it is not infected by a virus or worm and you can not know if his account has been phished.

Well, sure, this splash or redirect screen could be optional, but I think it's recommend to just implement this for security reasons.

Well maybe that should be a separate mod then for any external links posted on the site because the thought of the splash page is not how the Facebook one works. Or make it optional because I for one am not that paranoid and the fact that members can report broken or bad links right from the listing.

If they want to add more security, then maybe strengthen the script to envoke captcha before submitting a link or something that detects phishing links like email does. But whatever happens I don't want to be annoyed by a splash page when I'm viewing pages or links... Especially as a staff or admin when validating them or browsing them for moderation so I surely wouldn't want to wish it upon my members.

Just keep it optional is all I'm saying and the content of it should be editible so you don't scare people with warnings of possible threats.
