Users Content & Interaction – Essential Ingredients for A Live of Any Social Network
Following our first blog – How to keep your user experience consistency in Mobile Era. Here are the latest updates providing you some ideas of how phpFox 4.6.0 would be.
We were talking about UI and how to keep your users’ experience consistency and what keep your users staying and coming back.
It’s all about the content and activities – users, not yours. We can spend the whole day to name numerous Social Networks (Niche) have no content by their own, but users. We are not talking about Blogging or News Websites, we are talking about Social Network.
Social Network Site lives upon users’ content upload and interaction (activity). If your site’s content is mostly coming from your side and you do interact with the members quite often, then your site is dying. One of the top priorities is: the easier for a user to upload, the more your site will have content; the more user interact with content, the longer the users stay on your site. In other words, you should focus on two main things:
- Is your site easy for a user to upload content?
- Does your site bring “useful” content to users in the first place?
Uploading should be convenient as much as possible
We’re on the same page now, aren’t we? Great! So, we will find a better way for the users to upload photos for example – without a doubt, photo mostly has the largest content of any site. We could not ask a user to follow basic steps such as attach, post, view then delete (for any mistake), especially is Mobile Era. Users love to share photos by drag and drop, make arrangement and preview everything before all’s said and done. Otherwise, everything will be posted and they find a mistake after everything’s done, they will be no longer interested in uploading again. How about
- Support drag and drop while uploading photos/files
- Support preview photos while uploading
Yes, sounds good, isn’t it? That is what phpFox 4.6.0 will have by default.
Bringing Information to Users – Don’t make them find
People belongs to a group, mostly they’re interested in the content of this group. Also, one group have many “sub-level” of content: such as Photos, Videos, etc., where they need to access conveniently. Otherwise, the content will get lost in the ocean of data. Once the uploaded content got no views, it will get no interaction, the uploader will not upload again for sure – back to the very first point. phpFox will make things easy for the Site Admins, you can set up everything ready for users with:
- Each app which is integrated with Page/Group will have the settings to display public items in All Item page of the corresponding app or not
- Allow admin to hide/show integrated apps in menu of the page/group detail
Related Information – Give users more, they might be interested.
In Photos & Album, the related information is very necessary. Users tend to see other photos in the same category.
Taking Pinterest as an example, once you’re seeing one pin, right below, Pinterest will suggest you other pins in the same and related categories. The chance is very high that you click on them, follow the flow without noticing that you’re spending much time than you plan? That user’s behavior is the same as to YouTube, and more likely you will stay all day to see all the suggested videos. Recognizing this essential feature, phpFox will have this supported by default.
In fact, phpFox will have a new block “In this category” in some apps to display some items which have the same category with the current one while viewing item detail.
