Can somebody else validate that Custom Fields are not showing up in global search even though the field is set to be searched?

This is on 4.7.9 latest.

Dear  metro,

Could you show me where you can see the phrase [Global search]? Please provide us the screenshot to make sure that we understand your feedback correctly.

In our screenshot, when creating a custom field, you can see the phrase [Include on Search User] instead of [Global search] as you mentioned: https://prnt.sc/ql5kyl ;

Sorry Hannah,

I was just goofing off being an idiot.  I am pretty sure in the old days there was only one search, so it was referred as a global search.  :)

Oh...I did find this though.

>>> This setting allow to turn on/off global search tool. It did not relate to search with a custom field. Mean that if you turn off this option, the users will not see the search bar.

The global search tool is the search bar displaying at the top of every page.

I know right....I just renamed it to "half donkey :smiley::smiley:global search"

I am going into the Phrase Manager and change it to Partial Global Search :)

Dear,

We called [Global search] to distingue with the Search section on each module/app.

In the Global search, you can search for all the item names that came from all apps and you can search for user names also.

In the search section on a specific app, you can search for the data on this app only.

Best regards,

That is fine and dandy :) but the global search should include custom text fields.  Say you set up a custom field to input a school name, hobby, club, a political party (LOL) and you want to have the ability so other people can find other people with that custom field.  Otherwise, that custom field is just a visual thing that only the people who know your profile will see and they probably already know your school name, hobby, club or political party (LOL again).

Political parties are not global and thus fits this version of global search.

So... I guess at the end on fthe day, this "FAKE CLOBAL SEARCH" feature falls under the category of working as designed.

Since we have established that, anybody have a hack so that the global search is based on the About field?

Metro,

Sorry, I gave up on their search 90's style search with no all word or any words abilities.  Did you know that I never realized that the search forum on my phpfox site as well as this forum only searches the title of a thread?  All this time, I was selecting post for when I did searches thinking it was searching the post and all it does is either show thread results or show post results for the search of only the thread title.  It is no wonder why I can never find anything on this forum.

I know it won't work for you but I am using zoom now for my forum search.

https://www.zoomsearchengine.com/

I created a main menu item link to the zoom search page and they enter what they are looking for and then if they are logged in, it shows the results.  At least this search results, searches all the threads including all the individual posts but it is only set up for forums which guest are able to see.  I could not get the password option to work with phpfox.

Thanks JohnJr. Since Younet don't see value is fixing this flaw I am looking for a developer to create a hack to index just the About field. Maybe I should just reach out to Raymond (@natio) over at socialengine.com for a fix (: Seriously though if a developer here has a hack. Please let us know.

...Are there still independant developers here, or are we still only 12 people using this script; with half being the development team?

Can somebody recommend a developer on freelance.com or any other freelancer site?
